On March 20, 2020, Mayor LaToya Cantrell suspended all deadlines contained within the City of New Orleans’ administrative rules, ordinances, regulations, law, or codes. The suspension applies to administrative deadlines imposed by the City Code; the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, or any other rule, regulation, or law requiring the Board of Zoning Adjustments; City Planning Commission; Neighborhood Conservation District Advisory Committee; New Orleans and Central Business District Historic District/Landmarks Commission; and Vieux Carre Commission. The suspension applies to any of the aforementioned agencies’ committees, including deadlines that would otherwise be applicable and in place relative to applications, land use matters, and zoning ordinances.
For example, if a person or business desires to appeal a decision of the Department of Safety and Permits, that appeal must be made to the Board of Zoning Adjustments (BZA) within forty-five (45) days of the decision. Under the Mayor's enacted suspension, the forty-five (45) day deadline to file an appeal with the BZA is suspended.
The Mayor's suspension states that it will remain in effect until it is revoked by her office.
You should review the full suspension order and/or discuss with legal counsel if you have any questions or concerns about how this Order may affect your business.
